OSBA Junior Officials Program

Program Overview

The OSBA will be starting a Junior Official Programs for refereeing and a volunteer scorekeeping (for Highschool hour credits) commencing in the Fall 2024/25 season. The OSBA will be partnering with the Nepean Basketball Association in this initial year to start and build a base as they assist us with training and assigning within the OSBA and NBBA games.

Goal

The goal of the Junior Officials Program is to educate, train, and mentor young officials (U15/U16 15 YOA or higher age minimum) as OSBA officials and scorekeepers. Our association’s goal in fostering these young persons about basketball officiating, and scorekeepers is we are trying to grow our sport with a new generation of sports officials.

We also recognize that by encouraging these younger officials to learn the craft, they too will become better observers of the game as well as becoming better basketball players.

Participants

Any 15 YOA (high-school or post-secondary aged person), with reasonable knowledge of basketball, playing experience, or a passion to learn the sport. Junior Referees must be at least two years older than the participants they are refereeing.
